At Comfort Labs one of our main goals is to create transparency and improve information for those wanting to purchase CBD products.
What is CBD, is it legal and safe?
CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is one of 113 identified chemical compounds (cannabinoids) in hemp plants. CBD does not have any intoxicating effects unlike THC, and CBD products are legal assuming they have less than 0.2% THC content.
The CBD products at Comfort Labs do not contain any traces of THC. In fact our CBD isolates the active ingredient of CBD from the rest of the hemp plant.
CBD is safe for human consumption, and as noted by the World Health Organization “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”
Once extracted from the plant CBD is often diluted with a carrier such as coconut oil (MCT) to improve the body’s ability to utilise it.
How do we keep our prices so low?
Our products are priced so we can produce high quality CBD oils for those that need it. We pay our staff and ourselves a fair wage but without taking an excessive profit. Brands charging far higher prices are either charging extortionate mark-ups or spending unnecessarily on fancy packaging and graphic design, which does not affect the quality of the CBD oil nor the effect it has on consumers.
Our CBD has gone through rigorous testing and quality assurance processes. Our goal as a company is to supply CBD at affordable prices and improve transparency in the market, rather than exploit those wanting to benefit from CBD products.
We use a 25mg dose as a way to compare prices. As CBD is the active ingredient required to get the desired effect, the quantity of CBD (in mg) and it’s price is what matters. Strength (%) and bottle size (ml) will only effect the number of drops required to get a 25mg dose and how many doses are in the bottle.
How do I know what strength to take?
Labelling on CBD products can often be confusing. Some products state the quantity of CBD contained in mg, and some state it in terms of a % of the volume of the oil.
Strength: CBD oil strength is the proportion of an oil drop which is CBD versus the proportion which is the carrier oil. Strength will inform you how many drops to take to achieve a desired dose. For example you would need to take double the amount of 10% CBD oil in comparison to 20% CBD oil to achieve the same effect.
CBD Content: CBD content is the mass (typically in mg) of CBD in a bottle. CBD content will tell you how many doses you are buying, and therefore the price per dose.
There is a clear 1 to 1 mapping between strength and content. For example, 20% strength CBD implies a 10ml CBD oil bottle contains 2000mg of CBD. Alternatively, a 10ml bottle containing 1000mg CBD would only have a strength of 10%.
We have designed a strength and cost calculator, in order to make strength and content calculations (as well as prices) as transparent as possible between CBD products. All products in our store state clearly on them how much CBD the product contains, the strength, the cost per 25mg dose and how many drops to take for a 25mg dose.
What is the best way to take CBD?
We advise our customers to take CBD oil sublingually. This means placing the drops underneath your tongue and leaving them there for at least 2 minutes.
This method enables the CBD to be absorbed into the blood stream via the sublingual membrane and bypasses the digestive system where more of the raw CBD may be lost. In scientific terms, there is evidence that by taking drops sublingually rather than swallowing directly there is improved bioavailability (Mannila, 2006), where bioavailability refers to how much of a substance can be utilised by the body.
What can CBD help me with?
There are many wild claims about CBD being a miracle cure-all supplement. Here at Comfort Labs we want to be transparent and make sure people know what the current state of science suggests. The pharmacological effects of CBD have been studied on the following, and linked are relevant peer reviewed journal articles concerning each:
- Anxiety (Crippa et al., 2004; Crippa et al., 2011; Zuardi et al., 2017; Arndt & de Wit, 2017; Linares et al., 2019)
- Pain (Wade et al, 2003; Palmieri et al., 2017, Cunetti et al., 2018)
- Inflammation (Burstein, 2015)
- Sleep (Chagas et al., 2014, Suraev et al., 2020)

How much CBD should I take?
Required dosage can vary between different individuals. We always suggest starting low and increasing until the desired effect is reached.
As a precaution, since February 2020 the UK Food Standards Agency has advised that pregnant women, those breastfeeding, and those taking medication for other medical concerns should not take CBD unless discussed with a medical practitioner. Additionally, they advise healthy adults should not take more than 70mg per day.
In contrast the EIHA have advised this figure should be 160mg per day for a non-clinical dose.
Clinical studies into pain management and anxiety such as those linked above generally used considerably higher doses (100-900mg). Additionally, an article in the peer reviewed journal Current Drug Safety noted “chronic use and high doses up to 1,500 mg/day of CBD are
reportedly well tolerated in humans”
We strongly advise discussing with a medical consultant if, and what dose of CBD would be appropriate for you. The above information is not medical guidance and is for informational purposes only.
What spectrum is Comfort Labs CBD oil?
Our CBD oil contains no detectable level of THC, and a very low amount of CBDV (about 2mg of CBDV for every 1000mg of CBD.) It contains no other components of the hemp plant (i.e. other cannabinoids, terpenes or flavonoids). As such it is neither full spectrum (containing THC) nor broad spectrum (containing other components) and would be considered pure cannabidiol (CBD).
The reason we have opted for pure CBD rather than a wider spectrum is for two reasons. Firstly, we want to avoid any chance of THC being present in our product. This is for both legal reasons and to ensure our product has no intoxicating effects.
Secondly, till date all the peer reviewed experimental studies looking at the benefits of CBD (e.g. see above) have used pure cannabidiol (CBD) and we want our product to keep as close to the science as possible.
Is hemp oil the same as CBD oil?
CBD oil is simply the cannabinoid CBD mixed with a carrier oil (such as MCT oil).
Hemp seed oil is oil obtained by pressing seeds from the hemp plant and is a dietary product you can use to cook with and contains little to no CBD. Some CBD products use hemp seed oil as their carrier. Note we do not do this, we use MCT oil which is derived from coconut.
Please note some products use the term CBD oil and Hemp oil interchangeably. If you are looking for a CBD product we always advise to check the CBD content of any product (typically written in mg). This will allow for a clear comparison of strength and price per dose. Some products advertising as Hemp Oil or Hemp Drops actually contain little to no CBD. To work out the strength or CBD content in any CBD product you can use our strength and cost calculator.
